Dream Big Summer Program

The Bronx Children’s Museum seeks Teaching Artists to lead an in person summer art  program in the South Bronx for 1st and 2nd Grade students. Drawing on your knowledge, experience, ability and expertise, Teaching Artists will provide art instruction to children surrounding our yearly theme, program objectives, and goals.

The teaching position is an in-person role on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 - 2PM beginning July 12th and ending August 11th for a total of 10 sessions. Teaching Artists are responsible for following a set curriculum and lesson plan provided by the Museum that meets the specific program's objectives. 


Responsibilities associated with the position include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Attend all virtual orientations and supervise 10 students in your area of expertise in-person.

  • Arrive a half-hour before the program is scheduled to set-up and virtual group check-in meetings. 

  • Create and lead a final virtual performance with the children for parents and caregivers. 

  • Follow lesson plans correlating with the programs overarching theme and objectives.

  • Prepare/clean-up each class as it relates to the art project.

  • Lead discussions with children exploring the theme and integrating literacy activities and vocabulary each day.  

  • Lead children in lesson plans, journaling, and writing to describe their experience in the program. 

  • Conduct an assessment system, monitor each child’s progress and collect testimonials from children and staff before the end of the program. 

  • Document the class with photos and submit 10-15 good quality photos of your project. The testimonials and photos should be submitted to the Program Manager at the end of the program. 

  • Engage the families of the students by sharing each family’s diverse culture and traditions as it relates to your field of specialization. 

  • Working collaboratively with the school or organizational staff to ensure successful workshops. 


  • A commitment and passion for the Bronx Children’s Museum mission.

  • BFA from an accredited college within your field of expertise. (MFA Preferred) 

  • 3+ years teaching children K-5th grade within your field of specialty 

  • Must have experience working with families, children, and communities 

  • Ideally Spanish Bilingual preferred 

  • Able to travel to community sites throughout Bronx 

This is a temporary/part-time position offering a per diem day rate of $200.
