Museum GreenArts program PS 55 students go to MOMA!

Yesterday, January 15, thanks to Vanessa Gibson who gave the museum $20,000 to operate an after school program at PS 55 for a third year, 19 second graders from our "Green Arts" after school program visited the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) to view the Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs exhibit. Students were given a guided tour and learned about the way Henri Matisse created work from paper during the last ten years of his life. The purpose of this visit was for the students to have fun and to conduct research for an installation exhibit they will be working on entitled Paper Paradise that will be installed at the Bronx Museum of the Arts during Armory week as part of the Bronx Arts Alliance show in February. Paper Paradise will be a fictional garden the children will make completely out of cut paper. This project is also integrated with their study of urban gardening using two gardens located in front of their school.
