Program Description
The Bronx Children’s Museum GreenArts After School program worked with 22 children in second and third grade at C.S. 55 and in collaboration with SCAN to provide fine art and music sessions twice a week from January to March 2020. Teaching artist Luss Nigaglioni guided children using movement and music, in an exploration about how they can inspire people to care about their health and their community.
Children were taught about healthy habits and mindfulness which culminated in the creation and production of songs about healthy choices. Tanya Fields, of the Urban Liberated Farm in the Bronx, taught children about healthy eating habits and demonstrated how to create an easy and nutritious breakfast.
TESTIMONIALS
“Being a part of the Bronx Children;s Museum Program has always been an extremely rewarding experience. My students have shown a great deal of growth in their communication skills and in their understanding of the rich history of music in The Bronx. They learned about health but also how to work as a team to create a collaborative work of art. The 2019-2020 school year was like none other and we were saddened that students could not perform their song encouraging health and happiness to their peers. Thank you to the Bronx Children's Museum and their teaching artist for returning to CS 55 next year to continue to provide quality programming." – Mr. Torres, Principal CS 55
