DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND OPERATIONS

The Deputy Director of Finance and Operations (DDFO) reports to the Museum’s Executive Director (ED) and supports and collaborates with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and senior staff to carry out the Bronx Children’s Museum’s (BxCM/Museum) mission and vision and implement its business plan.

 

The successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative manager and will lead and develop internal teams to support the Museum and will be a vital partner for the opening of the Museum in 2020 and will ensure that the organization has operating excellence and integrity in the following areas:

 

  • Financial and operational management and controls

  • Administrative and reporting management, systems and procedures

  • Human resources and operational management and systems

  • Technology and operational management and systems

  • Building, maintenance, security and safety, emergency procedures

  • Overseeing legal and insurance and compliance issues

  • Business best practice and long-term strategic planning

 

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior management/operations roles in a growing or changing museum or cultural environment and/or non-profit organization

 

  • Masters Degree in Business, Non Profit Financial Management or Bachelor’s degree and equivalent in experience

  • Proven demonstrated success in project management for capital projects, including planning and implementation, preferably for a cultural nonprofit organization; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and strong attention to detail with a hand-on work ethic

  • Proven strategic ability to develop, manage and execute strategic and business plans

  • Proven leadership ability to act as a respected and trusted member of a senior management team, lead with integrity and mutual respect, motivate, and inspire trust and confidence with a wide range of people representing various backgrounds and levels of experience

  • Excellent relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders; knowledge and experience with Board of Directors governance and related documents. Understanding of public policy and community affairs in The Bronx a plus

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, public speaking and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to children and families of the Bronx and to Bronx Children’s Museum’s mission

  • Ability to work productively and collaboratively with all levels of management and support staff, and maintain a highly professional and positive demeanor in a dynamic and creative environment

  • Exceptional judgment, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive situations and matters

  • Ability to work in an a virtual office environment, travel to Bronx and surrounding NYC boroughs for meetings and special events; flexibility to oversee programs, vendors and IT-related issues during weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed

 

COMPENSATION

The Deputy Director of Finance and Operations position offers a competitive compensation package based on candidate qualifications and experience. Additionally, Bronx Children’s Museum provides a competitive benefits package, including 403(b), health care and generous paid time off.
