Little Friends of Orchard Beach
In its second year, the Little Friends of Orchard Beach (LFOB) program worked with four Pelham Bay Park schools: P.S. 160, P.S. 178, P.S. 176, and Grand Concourse Academy Charter School. Working with a total of 322 Kindergarten-3rd grade students, Museum Educators and Teaching Artists offered twice monthly visits to schools from September 2017-June 2018. Visits included a pottery workshop, microscope lab, and visit to Orchard Beach and Pelham Bay Park.
“This was a great experience for students and staff as well. This was an opportunity for our students to learn about the environment and our community. The staff was a joy to work with.” Holly Figaro, Kindergarten to 2nd grade teacher, PS 176 @ PS 153
“The activities were hands on. Students were excited. Children had the opportunity to touch the beaver and raccoon pellets. The museum bus was a definite highlight for the students. The staff was very friendly. They had wonderful rapport with the students.” Lisa Bernardo, Kindergarten teacher, PS 160
“All staff were very understanding and knowledgeable. Our students enjoyed this program very much. They were always excited to see staff visit our classroom. They loved the Waters on the Go bus and microscope lesson. They loved the Orchard Beach trip as well.
