CAMPAIGN AND MAJOR GIFTS CONSULTANT

October 2018 – September 2019

 

The Bronx Children’s Museum is embarking on the first phase of a campaign to increase its reserve account by $3 million over the next three to four years. The Museum has momentum due to its current mission and programming, the imminent opening of its permanent physical space and its strong Board and staff leadership. The consultant will report to the Executive Director, in concert with the Director of Development, helping them develop, organize and move a campaign forward, strategically. 

 

Working with Executive Director, Director of Development, and Board liaison the consultant will:

 

  • Assist with overall campaign development and organization including major prospect list generation and research, campaign leadership development, cultivation and solicitation of high net worth donors, gift tracking, and acknowledgments.

  • Advise and help establish Campaign Committee structure – top level volunteers who will make their own personal commitments early, who may host receptions and dinners, major givers who will also lead the Campaign, serve as campaign co-chairs

  • Develop campaign timeline: Q 4 2018 – 2021

  • Develop and execute cultivation plan:

    • Identify top 20 high net worth donors to begin soliciting (5 from BxCM contacts), including five potential gifts for approximately $250-$500,000 each; Bring prospects along by starting early and sequencing the solicitations and the solicitors

    • Identify and steward solicitors, building common and tailored language for solicitations, regular updates.

    • Conceptualize, design and develop an events strategy that complements the campaign from small dinners to larger events; Define schedule by December 1 for a 12-person dinner and, possibly, one reception before February 15, 2019

    • Generate list of giving and naming opportunities and standards

  • Create case for support with top leadership and advise and create collateral materials; Clarify three to five campaign goals and outcomes; Help develop institutional messaging that is strategic and concise, and that is shared by key stakeholders

    • Prepare talking points, presentations for leadership, board, prospects and others;

  • Generate gift acknowledgement templates and work with Executive Director to develop personalized letters for general operating support, pledges, payments on pledges and restricted gifts; Help prepare pledge payment agreements

  • Create and participate on the “Internal Steering Committee” team that guides, tracks, self-corrects and evaluates ongoing progress, challenges and opportunities monthly

  • Work with Museum staff to ensure that meetings are arranged with major prospects

  • Other related assignments as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

10 years of significant development experience, including in a campaign setting. The individual must be highly resourceful, organized, self-motivated and passionate, willing to dig into the world of high net worth donors interested in children and making a difference, willing to roll up their sleeves, tap your contacts, and think out of the box, detail-oriented, creative, able to manage and work with diverse constituencies, and possess excellent writing, research and computer skills. Love of children and familiarity and understanding of the Bronx, its businesses, culture and NGOs a plus.
